Man who just had first child is shot dead on golfing trip to US, WI reports say
A month after having his first child, a Canadian visiting the United States for a golf trip was killed in a drive-by shooting, according to Wisconsin police and news reports.
The Sheboygan Falls Police Department said the victim, identified in media reports as Giovanni Michael Robinson, was found on a street just after midnight Sept. 24 “suffering from a gunshot wound.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation revealed a person in a small, dark-colored SUV shot Robinson before driving away, police said. A motive for the shooting is unclear and the investigation is ongoing.
In a Facebook post, Darcy Yeager identified Robinson as her brother-in-law. She said Robinson was visiting Wisconsin from Canada for a golf trip.
“He was only 32, just had his first baby in August and got a hole-in-one that day,” Yeager said. “This is a nightmare.”
Relatives told WTMJ they are traveling to Wisconsin “in search of answers” in the death of Robinson, who they said was “embracing fatherhood.”
Residents in Sheboygan Falls, too, are left puzzled.
“It’s just very shocking. I haven’t heard of anything like this in this area before. So, I have no idea why something like this would have happened,” Shelly Wehner, who lives near the crime scene, told WISN.
“I was surprised there was a shooting over here, because nothing bad ever happens around here,” another neighbor, Alex Wamser, told the station.
Sheboygan Falls is about a 55-mile drive north from Milwaukee.
