Longtime lottery player’s winnings were nothing to brag about. ‘Until now’

A Maryland man has been chasing after a big lottery prize since the 1990s.

Decades passed, though, and a big win never came his way, Maryland Lottery officials said in an Oct. 2 news release.

“I’ve had some wins over the years, but nothing worth bragging about,” he told lottery officials.

That is, he said, “until now.”

On a recent stop at a Deale liquor store, the player bought a $1 Pick 5 ticket using numbers “based on a variation of his ex-wife’s birthday, 26212,” lottery officials said.

His lucky numbers scored him a top prize of $50,000, landing him a first “brag-worthy” win, according to lottery officials

“It feels like it’s about time I won something like this,” the winner said.

So far, the winner said he’s only shared news of his big score with his children, whom he promised a “very good Christmas.”

Deale is about a 45-mile drive south from Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
