Officer supervising police at schools had child sexual abuse material, CO cops say
A police sergeant was arrested after being accused of having child sexual abuse material, Colorado officials said.
Sergeant Aaron Bunch of the Aurora Police Department was arrested by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force on charges related to online child sexual abuse material, according to an Oct. 8 Facebook post by police .
Bunch, who had been assigned as a school resource officer supervisor, was put on unpaid administrative leave following the charges, police said.
He had been hired by the police department in 2005, CBS reported.
Police say that, so far, they haven’t found evidence of victims living in Aurora or who attend the Cherry Creek School District or Aurora Public Schools.
“This is a sad and angering day for the Aurora Police Department and the community we serve. The allegations against this individual are disturbing and completely contrary to the values and mission of this department. This person has brought shame and disgrace to the badge and to an honorable profession. Such behavior undermines the trust and legitimacy that our officers work hard to earn every single day,” chief of Aurora police, Todd Chamberlain, said.
Aurora is about a 10-mile drive east from downtown Denver.
