A dog that was surrendered after his owner hit “hard times” was adopted, an Oregon shelter said.

Ghost, a dog diagnosed with long-term skin allergies that left his coat “patchy” and “red,” was left at a Portland shelter after his owner began struggling financially, according to an Oct. 18 Facebook post by the Oregon Humane Society.

Ghost’s owner noticed “he was struggling to eat, and his mood shifted.” Because she wasn’t able to care for him, she decided to take him to the shelter, leaving him with a note saying, “He means the world to us, but he needs more care than we can give him,” the post said.

“OHS offers financial assistance to pet owners struggling to afford care, but sometimes it simply isn’t enough,” the post said.

After Ghost came to the shelter he received medical care for his skin condition, and once he felt better, he was adopted into a new home where he’s now “thriving,” the post said.

Facebook users went to the comments to share their thoughts on the “beauty” with one person saying, “He’s absolutely adorable!!!”

“Soooo happy for Ghost and his family,” another wrote.
