Beloved pro boxer was shot dead at 18, Texas cops say. Arrest made 6 years later
A man accused of killing an 18-year-old boxer who had just begun his professional career has been arrested six years later, Texas authorities say.
Jeremiah Williams, accused of killing George Ramos on June 20, 2019, was arrested Oct. 22 and charged with murder, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
“I ask God to forgive me every day because I can’t forgive you for taking my everything from me,” Jessica Ramos, the mother of George Ramos, told WOAI. “When you murdered my son, you also took my husband and myself with him.”
Police said the 18-year-old victim was discovered dead in a Ford Expedition after crashing into a building, KENS 5 reported.
He had been shot multiple times, according to WOAI.
Police said in an Oct. 22 news briefing streamed by KSAT that investigators got the license plate number of the vehicle the accused shooter was driving. But without additional evidence, the case went cold.
Cold case detectives continued investigating the case in 2024 and found additional surveillance footage, which helped identify Williams, now 25, as a suspect, investigators said. He was arrested during a traffic stop in San Antonio.
The victim’s mother said her son knew Williams “from the school era,” according to KENS 5.
“For an 18-year-old, he was making good money,” Jessica Ramos told the station. “Apparently they were looking to kill him on Wednesday because they thought they were gonna take his money. When Georgie died, he didn’t have his money with him. He had it in his pants pocket at home. I found it after he died.”
According to his obituary, George Ramos began boxing as an amateur at 11. By 18, he turned pro, but his “professional boxing career was cut short.”
The family has hoped for justice for more than six years, police said.
“It took some time. It’s not like the TV shows, it’s not like the movies where in 48 hours they find something and the case is closed,” police spokesperson Ricardo Guzman said in the news briefing. “These detectives continued thoroughly to investigate these cases.”
