Passenger accused of road rage shooting that left man dead, Illinois officials say
A man is facing prison time after a 2020 road rage shooting left a passenger dead, Illinois officials said.
In August 2020, Dru Jarvis was a passenger in a white sedan driving in Elgin, about a 40-mile drive northwest from Chicago, when the driver tried to change lanes but another car was there, according to an Oct. 27 Facebook post by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The other car, driven by Francisco Trujillo-Uscanga’s co-worker en route to home from their place of work, honked at the sedan, prosecutors said.
The white sedan then pulled up next to the car carrying Trujillo-Uscanga, and Jarvis began firing multiple gunshots, striking Trujillo-Uscanga in the torso, officials said. His co-worker was also shot multiple times in the legs, according to officials.
Trujillo-Uscanga, 41, was sent to a local hospital where he eventually died, , officials said.
A week later, Jarvis was involved in another shooting, officials said. He was then arrested and was sentenced to four years in prison in 2021.
His involvement with the second shooting helped connect him to the road rage shooting, officials said.
He was found guilty on charges of murder, attempted murder and armed violence, officials said.
He is facing a minimum sentence of 96 years in prison, officials said.
Prosecutors believe Jarvis personally fired the gun so the murder charge and attempted murder charge have mandatory add-ons of 25 years to life in prison, officials said.
He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 3, prosecutors said.
