New videos show fire, damage to Ukraine buildings and person rescued from rubble

Russian airstrikes hit Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, on Wednesday, causing damage to residential buildings and several structures on the ground, videos show.

Video out of Kharkiv shows smoke billowing from a high-rise building. Buildings in Kharkiv’s historic center also suffered damage as a result of the overnight strikes, the news agency Storyful reported.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said on March 2, 2022, that 2,000 Ukrainian civilians had been killed since the beginning of the invasion. Storyful was not able to independently verify the figure.

In another video, firefighters rushed to pull people from the rubble in Kharkiv after Russian shelling severely damaged government buildings in the city’s historic district.

Other footage showed a maternity hospital in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, damaged after what was described as a missile strike in the area.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Zhytomyr Oblast said on March 2 that seven children were among 16 people injured overnight, while at least three people were killed.
