Harrowing video: Humpback whale briefly swallows kayaker in Patagonia off Chilean coast

A humpback whale swallowed a kayaker and then spit him back out seconds later, an unbelievable video shows.

The amazing encounter happened off the coast of Chilean Patagonia. Kayaker Adrián Simancas experienced the harrowing moment inside the mouth of the giant mammal.

The footage, shared to the Sacramento Bee by video content provider VideoElephant via Scripps News, was captured by victim Adrian Simancas’s father, Dell Simancas, who was kayaking nearby..

“I thought I was done for, that I was dead,” Adrián Simancas said in a video as reported by USA TODAY. “It was like three strange seconds down there, and now, looking back, I reflect on what mistakes led me there.”

The incident happened Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, CNN reported.

Adrián Simancas felt his life vest “pull me up, and then two seconds later I was back on the surface and then started understanding what happened,” he told CNN
