Nancy Pelosi is the latest big Washington figure to test positive for COVID

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has tested positive for COVID-19.

The San Francisco Democrat joins a growing list of Washington leaders who have been infected this week, including Attorney General Merrick Garland and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.

“After testing negative this week, Speaker Pelosi received a positive test result for COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic,” said Pelosi Deputy Chief of Staff Drew Hammill.

“The Speaker is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is thankful for the robust protection the vaccine has provided. The Speaker will quarantine consistent with CDC guidance, and encourages everyone to get vaccinated, boosted and tested regularly.”

Pelosi, 82, was scheduled to hold her weekly news conference Thursday morning before the House leaves on an Easter-Passover recess. It returns the last week of April.

The exact sources of the virus are uncertain, but at least 14 people who attended Saturday night’s Gridiron Club and Foundation dinner have tested positive. The club is an organization of 65 prominent Washington journalists.

Garland and Raimondo were among them. So were Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Burbank, and Joaquin Castro, D-Texas.

President Joe Biden, who did not attend the dinner, has reported no symptoms. Pelosi was next to Biden at a bill signing ceremony Wednesday.
