Interactive: A closer look at the Glazer-Bonilla contest
Final results in last week’s special primary election in the East Bay’s 7th Senate District show that Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla will need to expand her support beyond the district’s northern half if she hopes to prevail in a May special general election.
Bonilla, D-Concord, faces fellow Democrat Steve Glazer, an Orinda councilman, in the May 19 runoff. Glazer ran strongly throughout much of the district, particularly along the district’s Highway 24 corridor between Orinda and Walnut Creek.
Here is how Glazer and Bonilla stacked up in last week’s election, along with former Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan, an Alamo Democrat, and Republican Michaela Herta of Pleasanton. Below that is an interactive map of the March 17 vote.
Top vote-getter | Overall share of vote (%) | Precincts won | Share of vote in winning precincts (%) |
Steve Glazer, D-Orinda | 33.7 | 260 | 41.8 |
Susan Bonilla, D-Concord | 24.9 | 209 | 45 |
Joan Buchanan, D-Alamo | 22.4 | 90 | 35.8 |
Michaela Herta, R-Pleasanton | 16.1 | 30 | 35.2 |
