Video: Healthcare advocates stop traffic near California Capitol
Traffic froze for about 10 minutes around noon Wednesday when demonstrators blocked cars at a busy intersection next to the Capitol.
About two dozen sign-carrying young adults sat in the middle of 10th and L streets and refused to move off crosswalks in a show of support for legislation, Senate Bill 4, that would extend government health insurance to undocumented California residents.
Their chant: “What do we want? Health care! When do we want it? Now!”
Frustrated motorists leaned on their horns. A few got out of their cars and confronted the demonstrators face to face.
The protest broke up peacefully after state and Sacramento police moved in.
Call Jon Ortiz, Bee Capitol Bureau, (916) 321-1043.
