Newsom’s regular remarks come as California records another uptick in coronavirus cases across the state. At Thursday’s briefing, Newsom said a mask requirement for students is still being discussed.

So far, according to data from the California Department of Public Health, more than 200,000 coronavirus cases have been reported since the pandemic began. More than 5,800 people have died.

Newsom also told reporters Thursday that requiring out-of-state visitors to quarantine to protect from further outbreaks isn’t necessary. Still, he said, “I think the message should be very clear. Anyone coming to the state of California is subject to the mask mandate and the guidelines we have put forth.”
