The U.S. Conference of Mayors, led by its outgoing president, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, will draw national politicians to San Francisco this weekend for its annual conference. President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will join big city mayors like Rahm Emmanual (Chicago) and Eric Garcetti (Los Angeles).
Of course, the Bay Area’s piles of money are an added attraction for the national pols. Obama will continue a California fund-raising sweep with a $10,000-per-person reception hosted by billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer. Clinton also has fundraisers lined up throughout her visit to California.
BUDGET VOTE: With a deal between the governor and the Legislature coming just a day after lawmakers passed their budget bill, there has been no gridlock to speak of. The Senate and Assembly are both expected to ratify the spending agreement today, though trailer bills are still being worked out and some side deals remain in the air.
JUNETEENTH: The event commemorating the freeing of Texas’ slaves by Union forces begins today in Sacramento’s William Land Park. Juneteenth runs for a week and includes a fashion show, sports and a parade.
