Jerry Brown signs bill creating 'Office of Farm to Fork'

The farm to fork movement is sprouting office space.

Gov. Jerry Brown said Friday he has signed legislation creating the Office of Farm to Fork. It will reside within the state Department of Food and Agriculture.

Assembly Bill 2413, by Assemblyman John A. Pérez, D-Los Angeles, was promoted as a way to coordinate efforts to encourage fresh food access, including to poor communities and schools.

The bill creates the Farm to Fork Account within the department, combining money from federal, state and industry sources.

The bill was one of seven agriculture- and food-related measures Brown announced signing Friday. The Democratic governor enacted the bills without comment.
