Good morning and welcome to the A.M. Alert!

IN LAST WEEK OF ELECTION, NEWSOM DROPS $1.6 MILLION ON NO ON 30

With just six days before the November midterm election, California Gov. Gavin Newsom disclosed another $1.6 million in support of the No On 30 campaign against Proposition 30.

The money comes from Newsom’s 2022 gubernatorial re-election campaign.

Ever since Newsom came out against Prop 30, which would raise taxes on the rich to pay for electric vehicle infrastructure and more state firefighters, support for the ballot measure has dropped.

Just 41% of likely California voters support Prop 30, according to the latest survey from the Public Policy Institute of California, down from 55% support in September.

Newsom came out against the ballot measure in mid-September, calling it a taxpayer-funded giveaway to the measure’s primary corporate donor, rideshare company Lyft.

HOTELS DISCRIMINATED AGAINST PEOPLE FOR THEIR TRIBAL STATUS

Two Northern California hotels must revise their rental policies and comply with nondiscrimination laws after a California Department of Justice investigation found that they were discriminating against Native American guests based on their tribal affiliation and local residence.

The Siskiyou County hotels — Super 8, by Wyndham Yreka and Baymont, by Wyndham Yrekasigned an agreement requiring them to adopt clear nondiscrimination policies, under DOJ review, conduct ongoing nondiscrimination training and issue direct apologies to the Karuk Tribe.

“Native Americans have been in California since time immemorial,” Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement. “They — like all residents of our state — deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.”

Bonta said that state and federal law prohibit discriminating against people based on their protected characteristics.

“As Chairman of the Karuk Tribe I will demand, by law, that businesses treat Karuk Members with respect and dignity in the same manner as any other human being,” said tribal Chairman Russel “Buster” Attebery.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I have been doing a lot of thinking. It is easy to become upset or believe that as a country we are more divided than ever. This has been said for decades. Yet,there is goodness out there. Let us run towards each other, and not let those who seek to divide us win! #community #love”
