With a little more than a month left before California voters go to the polls, the race for governor is this/close.

Eric Swalwell left the contest amid scandal. Another Democrat, Betty Yee, departed amid poor performance in the polls. California’s Democratic Party chair is imploring other low-polling candidates to drop out in hopes of preventing a Republican — or two — from advancing out of the June 2 primary.

So what’s a voter to make of it all? We’re bringing in two of our experts to break down the race and answer your questions.

“The Governor’s Race: A Bee Q&A” is set for 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27. Click here to sign up for free and hear from two of California’s brightest political journalists: The Bee’s Lia Russell and Ben Paviour. Grace Wyler, the Bee’s Assistant Managing Editor for Politics & Investigations, will moderate the discussion.

Here’s how the event will work:

After you sign up, you’ll get a confirmation email from Bee audience engagement leader Samantha Sullivan that will include a Zoom webinar link. This email also will include a button to add the webinar to your digital calendar.

The day of the event, you’ll get an email reminder an hour beforehand. Click on the link to join us at 12:30 p.m. sharp.

Once the digital doors open, Grace will ask our reporters a few questions we often hear (”Why does California have this unpredictable top-two primary system, anyway?” is a popular one) before moving onto yours. You’ll be able to ask questions in the chat, with the panelists answering as many as possible — and other Bee journalists responding in writing.

We’ll try to keep the whole thing to a half-hour or so, and then post the video to our website. Think of it as a low-fi live podcast.

This also is our first live event using Zoom webinar, so participants will be a part of Bee history.

Looking forward to seeing you on Monday. Again, the sign-up link is here, and the event is free.
