Dave Jones’ neighbors got a surprise visit recently from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Representatives from the agency wanted to discuss the state insurance commissioner, a longtime resident of Curtis Park in Sacramento. A neighbor was told that Jones, a Democrat who previously served in the state Assembly, was being considered for an unspecified federal position.
The timing of the visit seemed curious, given Jones’ intentions to run for state attorney general in 2018, announced earlier this month.
Might he be in search of a loftier ballot designation?
The FBI official did not say whether Jones was aware of the job prospect, or if it was something he had applied for, one neighbor said.
Through a spokesman, Jones declined comment, prolonging the mystery.
