Not registered in California yet but want to vote? Here’s what to do on Election Day
Haven’t registered to vote yet? It’s not too late.
California offers same-day voter registration, also known as conditional voter registration, as a way to help ensure all eligible voters have the opportunity to cast a vote on Election Day — even if they missed the Oct. 24 deadline.
Same-day voter registration in California
You can go register to vote Tuesday at your county elections office, polling place, or vote center. Head to the polls before they close at 8 p.m. (as long as you’re in line by then, you can vote).
To find a polling center in your area, visit the state’s website and search for locations open on Election Day. You can also search your county’s website.
Once you pick a polling station that is convenient, you’ll have the opportunity to register to vote and cast a provisional ballot on the same day.
Since you will be registering, you will need a form of identification. Any of the following work:
- Driver’s license or state identification card
- U.S. passport
- Student identification card
- Utility bill
Or you need your last four digits of your social security number.
Your vote will be counted once your eligibility and registration is verified.
