Joshua Alves, Norma Alcala and Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez are vying for two seats on the Washington Unified School District Board of Education in West Sacramento. The Bee mistakenly omitted Alves from the Voters Guide published Oct. 12.

Why are you running for this office? Schools are the heart of our community. To be successful in school, all children need the head start universal preschool can provide. And all children need the solid 3Rs of basic education. Students also need job training and parent involvement.

Why are you running for this office? I want my daughters and all children to have access to the highest quality education in safe schools. As a teacher in a highly diverse community, specializing in curriculum, I know what is necessary to enhance education for students of all abilities.
