Who’s ahead in Folsom elections? See early results for city council races
Six candidates are vying for two vacant seats on the Folsom City Council, and early election results Tuesday night showed Justin Raithel and Barbara Leary were in the lead.
Two years ago, Folsom residents for the first time voted to elect city council members representing geographic districts. The two seats up for grabs in Tuesday’s election, now listed districts 2 and 4, were the remaining at-large seats on the City Council.
Hla Elkhatib, Dustin Silva and Raithel are hoping to become the first city council member to represent District 2, which sits in the center of Folsom, straddling East Bidwell Street.
In District 4, which is located along Prairie City Road with its southern boundary north of Highway 50, Leary, Gul Khan and Jim Ortega are asking voters to elect them as the district first representative on the City Council.
In the vote totals released Tuesday evening just before midnight, Raithel had 40% of vote in the three-way race for District 2. Silva was in second place with about 32% of the vote, and Elkhatib was in third with 27% of the vote.
In the race for District 4, Leary was in the lead with 48% of vote. Ortega was in second place with 41% of the vote, and Khan was in third with 10% of the vote just before midnight.
