The Associated Press projected that incumbent Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen and challenger Vinaya Singh will advance to the November general election in the race for California’s 10th Assembly District.

Initial tallies as of Wednesday showed Nguyen leading with 67.6% of the vote to Singh’s 32.4%.

Nguyen, a Democrat and former Elk Grove city councilmember and nonprofit director, is running for her third term in the state Assembly after winning election in 2022. Singh, a Republican, is a retired scientist and IT specialist who unsuccessfully challenged Nguyen in 2024.

The 10th Assembly District represents part of Sacramento County, including Elk Grove, south Sacramento and the Pocket neighborhood. Over 50% of the district’s 275,094 registered voters are registered Democrats, while about 20% are registered Republicans.
