Gaines, Posey head to runoff in El Dorado County’s 4th District supervisors race
Ted Gaines and Gina Posey will head to a November runoff in the race for the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors’ 4th District.
Returns released Monday show Gaines leading with about 47% of the vote, while Posey has garnered about 25% of the vote counted, according to updated results released by the county. Election officials in Placerville reported all but around 1,300 votes have been processed; the next update is expected Friday.
The district, which covers the Georgetown Divide and other parts of northern El Dorado County, has been up for grabs after current supervisor Lori Parlin declined to seek reelection.
A self-proclaimed “proud conservative,” frontrunner Gaines has been a member of the state Board of Equalization since 2018, and previously represented the 1st Senate District in the Legislature. He’s operated an El Dorado County insurance agency with his wife, Beth, for more than three decades, according to his campaign website.
Posey, a nonpartisan candidate, served two terms on El Dorado County’s civil grand jury between 2021 and 2023. She has more than 40 years of business experience at companies like Hewlett-Packard and Oracle, as well as a computer science degree and an MBA, according to her campaign website. She’s lived in the county for over 20 years.
Also in the primary race — the only competitive supervisors race in the county — Greg Clark netted about 19% of the vote while Robert J. Deitz II received just under 9%.
Fifth District incumbent Brooke Laine, who represents South Lake Tahoe, Pollock Pines and other areas of southeast El Dorado, was re-elected running unopposed.
