A candidate who unsuccessfully tried to drop out of the election for the Yolo County Board of Education has been certified as the winner.
Final results from the Yolo County election office confirmed that Matt Taylor defeated incumbent trustee Xavier Gamez by a vote margin of 3,295 to 2,963.
Taylor, a West Sacramento resident and director of research for the California Charter Schools Association, had filed to run for the seat on Aug. 8. Three days later, he asked election officials to remove his name from the ballot, saying he had changed his mind about running. He was told it was too late.
Taylor, who belatedly opened a campaign Facebook page days before the Nov. 4 election, says he now plans to take the seat.
