Placer County’s Uhler retains seat amid development fight

Incumbent Placer County Supervisor Kirk Uhler easily kept his seat in Tuesday’s election, beating back a challenger who said Uhler is too aligned with development interests.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Uhler had 60 percent of the vote, while financial planner Victor Bekhet had 40 percent.

The race between Uhler and Bekhet for the District 4 seat centered on the question of whether to preserve the Granite Bay Community Plan, a 27-year-old planning document that requires most residental lots to be one acre or more. Uhler has supported rezoning land to allow developers to build more homes – saying the large lot sizes, combined with developer fees, have made building in Granite Bay too expensive.
