The state of California is hiring in the new year.
Whether you’re looking for a job with the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, California State Prison or the Department of Transportation — there’s a job for you.
Remember, the California Department of Human Resources implemented COVID-19 testing of all unvaccinated state employees working on site as an additional health and safety standard. Those who seek exemption of testing and facial covering must provide proof of vaccination.
State jobs are known for offering great benefits and enrollment in the nation’s largest state public pension plan. Many of the following jobs have specific requirements, which are linked. Sift through the new Sacramento County-based jobs available on the CalCareers website, posted this week, as of Jan. 5:
Accounting officer | permanent full-time
Department: Cannabis Control
Salary: $4,701 to $5,885 per month
Under the general supervision of the senior accounting officer, the accounting officer will perform a variety of professional accounting duties of average difficulty and maintain financial records for the office.
The job posting will remain open until filled.
Assistant chief | permanent full-time
Department: Forestry and Fire Protection
Salary: $8,078 to $10,185 per month
Under the direction of the staff chief of cooperative fire programs, this position is responsible for the development of the department’s local government Cooperative Fire Protection Program.
The filing deadline is Jan. 18.
Business tax representative | permanent full-time term
Department: Tax and Fee Administration
Salary: $3,991 to $6,181 per month
The business taxes representative learns the routine phases of tax compliance activities of the return analysis unit and applies sales and use tax law, transactions tax law, regulations and annotations to ensure taxpayer’s compliance.

Caltrans landscape maintenance worker | permanent full-time
Department: Transportation
Salary: $3,746 to $4,270 per month
Under the supervision of a Caltrans maintenance supervisor, this employee is responsible for miscellaneous labor work and light equipment operation in connection with the maintenance of state highways and facilities.

Clinical social worker - correctional facility | permanent full-time
Department: Corrections and rehabilitation
Salary: $4,655 to $9,207 per month
Under the general direction of the chief psychologist, the clinical social worker serves as a behavioral health and wellness consultant to the department.

Construction supervisor II | permanent full-time
Department: Parks and Recreation
Salary: $9,486 to $11,877 per month
The construction supervisor is responsible for management and coordination of numerous construction projects for buildings and other state park facilities.
