The head of California’s state procurement department announced Monday that he plans to retire at the end of November.
Fred Klass‘ departure will end nearly four decades of state employment, the last four as the director of the Department of General Services.
Before that, he spent more than 20 years with the Department of Finance after stints with the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office and the Little Hoover Commission.
Klass’ No. 2, Chief Deputy Director Esteban Almanza, will take over as acting director until Gov. Jerry Brown names a permanent replacement, according to a department press release.
