Among the many facts that didn’t get into our Veterans Day story about women who serve: More than 1 in 5 working veterans, men and women, is employed by the government.

Federal agencies employ 9 percent of the veteran workforce, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, followed by local agencies (7.4 percent) and states (4.6 percent). There are about 10.3 million veterans in the U.S. civilian workforce.

On this day of remembrance and appreciation, The State Worker says “thanks” to veteran women, veteran men and their families for their service and sacrifice.
