Long-time CalPERS media contact Brad Pacheco has been appointed the fund’s deputy executive officer for communications and stakeholder relations. He started in his new position on Monday, according to a CalPERS release.

Pacheco, 46, has been a fund employee for nearly 20 years, the last six as chief of public affairs where he earned $110,203 annually. His new post pays $122,448 per year.

In his new capacity, Pacheco oversees all of CalPERS external communications and internal messages, websites, social media, visual designs and media relations. Pacheco will also counsel the board and executive staff.

As the face and the mild-mannered voice of media relations for CalPERS for a number of years, Pacheco was known for his unflappable demeanor in even the most difficult moments. Last year, the State Information Officers Council gave him a lifetime achievement award for his work.

Pacheco graduated from the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Communications.
