The California Department of Human Resources will host a four-hour workshop and education fair next month focused on how to apply for state government jobs and prepare for interviews.
The Nov. 12 event at Sacramento City College is a public manifestation of Gov. Jerry Brown’s effort to improve California’s state civil-service system, which can be difficult for outsiders to navigate when seeking a job.
The workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3835 Freeport Blvd. in Sacramento. The topics will include:
▪ Understanding the two-step process to finding work with the state and how to apply.

▪ How to tailor a state application and résumé to the position you want.
▪ How to prepare for an interview with the state.
This is an educational event only, CalHR spokesman Jim Zamora said, not a hiring fair. Hiring managers will not be on-site to take applications or résumés. Click here for a map and CalHR contact information. The event is free, but parking at the college is $2.
