News poet inspired by CalPERS’ tobacco reinvestment debate
The State Worker’s email netted a surprise this week after CalPERS decided to speed up a reporting deadline that some anti-smoking advocates fear will eventually put pension dollars back into tobacco companies.
The note came from Tim Torkildson, whose I Write the Blogggs website is a compilation of poems he has written about trending news. The CalPERS debate had caught his eye, prompting him to pass along this piece:
If profits you wish to entice
invest in the bizness of vice.
You cannot go broke
as long as folk smoke
and like to drink liquor on ice.
Thanks, Tom!
