A wood chipper shredder has been recalled after reports of some spitting metal

Chipper shredders that suddenly can begin firing metal at you sounds like a horror movie crossed with “Fargo.” That’s why DR Power Equipment recalled about 2,100 DR Power PRO XL 501 Chipper Shredders.

The problem, as stated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice: “The fin scroll of the chipper shredder can fail, ejecting pieces of metal from the chipper shredder hopper during operation, posing a laceration hazard.”

In the six reports of this happening, the alert said, no injuries have occurred.

This involves model Nos. CS35050BEN and CS35050BENR. If you have these models, DR Power will send you a repair kit with instructions. There’s also a DR Power instructional YouTube video (see below). Or, DR Power will send you to a serviceperson to make the repair for free, transportation cost included.

If you need to get in contact with DR Power about this recall, call 800-550-7016, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern time or email at recall@DRPower.com.
