Highway 12 across the Rio Vista Bridge will be subject to partial overnight closures this week as maintenance on the bridge continues, according to Caltrans.

The bridge, which crosses the Sacramento River, will be under one way traffic control between 7 p.m and 6 a.m. Monday through Friday starting Dec. 9. Caltrans says to expect delays of up to 20 to 25 minutes depending on traffic on the bridge and having to raise the bridge for waterway traffic.

This second phase of maintenance will focus on refurbishing and replacing worn electrical equipment, mechanical parts, elevator parts and restrooms. The first phase consisted of painting.

The bridge is safe for travel and weather conditions could delay or cancel scheduled work, according to Caltrans.

The painting phase is expected to last until winter 2020 and has a projected cost of $37.1 million. The second phase is scheduled to start in spring 2022 and will cost between $11.9 million and $19.2 million.
