A man is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a car Tuesday afternoon on Mack Road in south Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

The roadway, from Center Parkway to Valley Hi Drive, has remained closed for several hours following the crash.

According to police spokesman Karl Chan, the crash occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. near the intersection of Mack Road and Valley Hi Drive. It’s not immediately clear whether the man was in the crosswalk at the time of the incident.

The driver stayed on scene and has been cooperating with investigators, said Chan, who added that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

It’s unknown when the roadway will reopen.
