Update: Capital City Freeway reopens after large paint spill near Arden Way

Multiple lanes of the Capital City Freeway were closed for several minutes Wednesday morning near Arden Way after several dozen gallons of paint spilled on the northbound side Wednesday morning, authorities say.

Shortly before 11 a.m., officials reopened all northbound lanes after paint buckets were cleared from roadway. Residual backup could still be seen on the highway, south of Arden Way, and white paint was still smeared across most of the northbound lanes.

A photo taken from a Caltrans traffic camera showed white streaks of paint several car lengths long littering at least the three right lanes and shoulder of the freeway, also known as Business 80.

The California Highway Patrol activity log says the incident started around 10:05 a.m. with reports of paint and 5-gallon buckets creating a hazard in the roadway.
