Rollover crash snarls Highway 99 traffic near Broadway in Sacramento
A crash Friday afternoon involving an overturned vehicle briefly blocked traffic on northbound Highway 99 at 8th Avenue, just south of downtown Sacramento.
Caltrans issued a SigAlert for the solo-vehicle crash that happened at 4:52 p.m. involving a gold-colored Chevrolet Suburban. The SUV landed on its roof in the No. 2 lane just before the Broadway offramp and transition to Highway 50.
Just after 5:15 p.m., some vehicles were being allowed to pass through the area in the No. 5 lane. Caltrans officials lifted the SigAlert before 5:30 p.m., according to incident logs for the California Highway Patrol, but “motorists may experience congestion and delays in the area.”
Traffic was backed up well past Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at 5:15 p.m., according to Caltrans speed indicators. Officials advise vehicles from Elk Grove and farther south use Interstate 5 as an alternate route.
According to CHP incident logs, the SUV was carrying five passengers, but it was not immediately clear if there were any injuries.
