Lane closures will slow Interstate 5 through Sacramento over the weekend
Expect some slowdowns when traveling on Interstate 5 this weekend.
Road work by Caltrans crews during a 55-hour window will result in lane closures and closed ramps on I-5 in south Sacramento.
Repair crews will close two lanes in both northbound and southbound directions between Florin Road and Seamas Avenue. The closures will start Friday, July 17, at 9:00 p.m. and last until Monday, July 20, at 5:00 a.m.
Ramp closures include:
Florin Road on-ramp to northbound I-5
Florin Road on-ramp to southbound I-5
Off-ramp from southbound I-5 to Florin Road
Off-ramp from northbound I-5 to Florin Road
Off-ramp from southbound I-5 to 43rd Avenue
43rd Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5
Off-ramp from northbound I-5 to Seamas Avenue.
California Highway Patrol officers will enforce a 55 mph speed limit along the roadwork sites.
Another 55-hour closure is expected the following weekend, according to Caltrans’ project website.
The closures are part of the agency’s Fix Sac 5 project to improve the major north-south artery. According to Caltrans, improvements include adding high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, replacing a pedestrian overcrossing, constructing sound walls and extending entrance and exit ramps.
