Highway 70 back open after gravel spill caused at least 10 vehicles to crash, CHP says
A gravel spill on Highway 70 in Yuba County caused numerous vehicles to crash Tuesday morning and closed southbound lanes for a few hours.
The gravel was first reported around 6 a.m. near the Plumas Lake Boulevard exit, according to the California Highway Patrol’s online activity log.
The spill was about a half-mile long and “has caused at least 10 vehicles to crash,” the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a social media post.
The gravel was cleared and roadways reopened around 8:30 a.m., CHP officials said in an update.
Traffic was diverted from Highway 70 while officers awaited a Caltrans sweeper, the CHP said in an earlier update.
It was not immediately clear whether any of the collisions resulted in injuries.
