1-year-old girl killed, man and woman seriously injured in I-80 crash near Davis
An infant girl was killed and two people in the same vehicle were seriously hurt in a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Interstate 80 near Davis.
An initial collision around 4:15 a.m. involved a Toyota Avalon crashing into a guard rail near Old Davis Road, said Officer Dave Harvey, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol’s Solano office.
The sedan came to rest in lanes of traffic on eastbound I-80, where it was then struck by a box truck and a Toyota Tacoma pickup. It was not clear which of the latter two vehicles struck the Avalon first, Harvey said.
A 1-year-old girl in the rear seat of the Avalon was ejected during one of the crashes was killed, Harvey said.
A male driver and female front passenger in the Avalon were transported to a hospital with major injuries, according to Harvey. The Tacoma driver suffered minor injuries, and the box truck driver was not injured.
Eastbound lanes of I-80 were shut down until about 8:30 a.m., with traffic diverted onto Highway 113.
Harvey said the causes of the collisions remain under investigation, though the CHP online activity log noted foggy conditions at the time. He said investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a factor.
The deceased child’s identity has not been released by the coroner.
