Placer County highway still closed after late-night crash involving power pole

Traffic Alert

A stretch of Highway 193 remains closed Thursday after a vehicle crashed into a power pole Wednesday night in Placer County, traffic authorities said.

The highway, which connects Lincoln and Newcastle, was closed in both directions between Sierra College Boulevard and Fowler Road, Caltrans said in social media posts. A vehicle struck a power pole along that stretch around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol.

Caltrans initially said the highway was expected to reopen around 11 a.m., then in an update just before noon said it will remain closed with no estimated time of reopening as PG&E continues repair work.

No major injuries were reported, according to the CHP’s online activity log. Pacific Gas and Electric Co. continued to fix power lines Thursday morning.

Drivers were advised to use alternate routes for travel between the Lincoln and Newcastle areas, including Sierra College Boulevard or using both Highway 65 and Interstate 80.
