Two lanes of I-5 reopen in south Sacramento after suspected DUI crash, CHP says
Two lanes of northbound Interstate 5 were shut down Friday morning in south Sacramento for more than an hour after a suspected DUI crash between a sedan and a big rig left oil on the roadway, authorities said.
The left two lanes of I-5 were closed at Florin Road, the California Highway South Sacramento office said in a social media post just after 6:45 a.m. Lanes reopened just after 8 a.m., the CHP said, though residual congestion may remain during morning commute hours.
An 18-year-old man driving the sedan that collided with a double-trailer big rig and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the CHP said. The driver was not identified, and no injuries were reported.
Long delays are expected during morning commute hours. Caltrans traffic cameras as of 7:15 a.m. showed congestion on northbound I-5 backed up nearly to Laguna Boulevard.
Drivers were advised to use alternate routes such as Highway 99.
