Another lane split is coming to Highway 50 in Sacramento County. Here’s where and when
If you frequent the W-X portion of Highway 50, be prepared for congested traffic, Caltrans said.
According to an August construction update, drivers heading westbound on the Capital City’s W-X freeway will be forced to split west of 65th Street and Stockton Boulevard. The newest split, which went into effect early Friday morning, joins traffic switches at Watt Avenue and 26th Street.
What it means
Stay alert, follow signs and prepare for traffic delays, Caltrans said.
The speed limit in a work zone is 55 mph at all times. California Highway Patrol is on alert for violators, the department wrote in a statement.
Crews will work “day and night,” but the schedule could change depending on car accidents, weather and construction issues.
What to do
Remain in the left two lanes to continue westbound on Highway 50 towards downtown Sacramento, West Sacramento and Davis.
Remember: Only the right two lanes will allow drivers to exit the Stockton Boulevard offramp exit.
What’s the project
The Highway U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project, also known as the Fix50 project, is the largest project in the Sacramento region.
The $471 million project will rehabilitate the highway pavement, improve drainage, add lighting and other enchantments. Once finished, the highway will feature 14 additional High Occupancy Vehicle lane miles.
The Fix50 project is slated to be completed between December 2024 and early 2025.
