It’s still snowing. It’s still raining. Wet April continues with a weekend storm
A series of storm systems blowing in from the Pacific will bring Northern California more rain and snow to end the week, hitting hardest on Friday, forecasts show.
National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch, in place 5 p.m. Thursday through 5 a.m. Saturday.
Mountain travel is discouraged Friday, NWS and Caltrans say.
Isolated thunderstorms and heavy rain are possible Friday afternoon in the Sacramento Valley, according to the latest NWS forecasts.
‘Be prepared AGAIN’ for snowy roads
It’s another rough weekend for those hoping to visit Tahoe.
Forecasts in the Sierra show 8 to 12 inches of snow will fall above 6,000 feet by Saturday morning, with up to 2 feet possible locally. Near-whiteout conditions are possible as both NWS and Caltrans discourage travel Friday.
Snow levels could fall to 5,500 feet Saturday.
Chain controls will likely begin Thursday afternoon or evening along mountain highways including Donner and Echo summits, Caltrans said.
“Be prepared AGAIN for winter driving conditions,” Caltrans said in a tweet Wednesday.
April showers continue
Sacramento could see a half-inch of rain Friday, with hail and heavier rain possible if thunderstorms come, NWS says.
The gustiest winds are also in store for Friday throughout the valley and the Sierra.
Temperatures should stay in the 60s Thursday through Saturday.
Next sunny day?
The latest forecast says Sunday should be partly sunny with a high of 74 in Sacramento. Showers will continue further north in the valley, with snow showers above 7,500 feet north of Interstate 80.
The sunny reprieve will be followed by another wet start to next week, with showers expected Monday despite a high of 75.
