Another morning of fog blanketing Sacramento, Central Valley during peak commute hours
Thick blanket of fog throughout the Central Valley on Tuesday has morning commuters treading cautiously for the second straight day.
The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory, in effect through noon for the central and southern Sacramento Valley as well as the northern San Joaquin Valley. Patches of fog have dropped visibility to as low as a quarter-mile in some parts of Northern California.
Caltrans traffic cameras showed thick pockets of fog near the Yolo Bypass, affecting the Yolo Causeway to Davis and the Elkhorn Causeway near Sacramento International Airport, as well as on Interstate 5 through Natomas, as of 7 a.m.
Fog is expected to lift by about 10 a.m. in Sacramento, according to the weather service. The rest of the day should be cloudy with a high around 56 degrees, with about a 40 percent chance of rain showers this evening.
The pattern of mild weather – with high temperatures in the upper 50s, lows in the upper 40s and a chance of nighttime rain – will continue through at least Friday night in Sacramento and most of the valley.
