No storm but plenty of cold nights in store for Sacramento to end 2019

Brrr.

No significant storms are expected to hit Northern California before the end of the year, but overnight temperatures will be noticeably cold through at least the weekend, according to the latest National Weather Service forecasts.

By 6 a.m. Friday, Sacramento had only reached 36 degrees with some patchy frost observed, the weather service said. Temperatures were similarly brisk throughout much of the Sacramento Valley and Sierra Nevada foothills.

Lows Friday night into Saturday morning could be near-freezing in the Sacramento area. The weather service is predicting the mercury in the capital will drop to 33 degrees.

Daytime high temperatures will range from the low- to mid-50s from Friday into early next week. Sacramento is also likely to get some light showers Sunday, which should dissipate by Sunday night, forecasts show.

Pack some layers of clothing if you’re headed to Tahoe this weekend. Highs through Sunday will be near the upper 30s, and overnight lows will dip as low as 12 degrees overnight Friday into Saturday near South Lake Tahoe, weather service forecasts show.

Some minor travel impacts are possible Sunday and early Monday, as light snow with minimal accumulation is predicted to fall at higher elevations.
