About 30,000 PG&E customers without power in Sierra foothills due to snow storm

More than 30,000 PG&E customers in Northern California are without power Monday morning, primarily in Nevada, Placer, El Dorado and Sierra counties, as a strong winter storm continues to hit the foothills with heavy snow at low elevations.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokeswoman Brandi Merlo in a tweet said 50 crews are working in those four counties to restore power.

“Low snow conditions causing outages & access issues,” Merlo tweeted. “Crews continue to work as conditions allow with more crews on the way.”

PG&E’s online outage map shows outages of between 500 and 4,999 homes and businesses in two dozen cities and towns, from the eastern edge of the Sacramento Valley through the foothills west of the Sierra Nevada range, totaling a little more than 30,000 customers as of 10:15 a.m.

No estimated time of restoration was available.
