Much of Northern California was placed under a flood warning Sunday morning as a winter storm battered Northern California with heavy rainfall.

Sacramento County rainfall trackers reported nearly 2 inches of rainfall since Sunday morning in certain areas.

Arcade Creek near American River College hit flood-stage levels around 12:45 p.m. That area of the creek runs alongside Winding Way. At flood stage, water levels reach the edge of the roadway, which at points consists only of a narrow bridge directly over the creek basin.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning just before noon spanning all of Sacramento County, reaching up to Paradise in the north and as far south as Modesto.

Thunderstorms were predicted throughout Northern California, with a possibility of hail, gusty winds and even weak tornadoes, according to the NWS.

NWS forecasters warned of flooded roadways and overflowing creeks throughout the region due to excessive rain.

The flood warning was rescinded by the NWS at 1:53 p.m.

“The heavy rain has ended and flood waters have receded, no longer posing a threat to life or property,” the agency said in its flood statement. “Please continue to heed any road closures.”

Heavy snow was also reported in the Sierra Nevada, as Caltrans temporarily held traffic on eastbound Interstate 80 over the peak.
