Ready for more heat? Sacramento could top 90 degrees for 3rd time in 5 days, forecast shows
Northern California’s late-April hot stretch will continue this week, with forecasts showing Sacramento entering the 90s again Tuesday.
Max temperatures will range from about 90 to 95 degrees across the Sacramento Valley, according to the latest National Weather Service forecasts. Sacramento is expected to reach 87 degrees Monday afternoon and 91 on Tuesday, before cooling to the lower 80s by the end of the week. The modern historical record for Tuesday’s date is 92 degrees, set in 2013.
Unseasonably warm weather started late last week in the region. The capital city set all-time heat records Friday and Saturday, coming close to 20 degrees hotter than average for late April.
Forecast earlier in the week to hit just 87 degrees, Sacramento reached a high of 93 at Sacramento Executive Airport on Friday afternoon, breaking the daily record for April 24 by 3 degrees, according to the NWS. The previous all-time mark of 90 degrees was tied in 2019. Downtown Sacramento also reached 93 degrees Friday, but fell short of the record of 94 set in 1946.
Downtown then hit 92 degrees Saturday, tying a record, and the NWS main recording station at Sacramento Executive Airport reached 91, breaking the old record of 89, which had stood since 2004. The record for the hottest April day in Sacramento dating back to 1941 is 95 degrees, according to the NWS, set April 30, 1996, and tied April 26, 2004.
Though tourists are discouraged from visiting due to coronavirus protocols, South Lake Tahoe is predicted to reach highs near 70 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasts show.
