Cooler weather incoming with showers predicted in Northern California, forecast shows

After a warm Mother’s Day, the Sacramento area could be in for a turn in the weather.

Northern California has endured weeks of summer-like weather, but a reprieve is expected in the form of rain showers Monday afternoon and possibly through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

“After getting a taste of the summer the last few days it will feel more like spring this week,” the NWS’s Sacramento office wrote in a forecast. “Shower chances and cooler temperatures return to NorCal.”

Sacramento may only see a tenth of an inch of rain, while northerly regions will see heavier precipitation, but fast-moving gusts are possible. Sacramento is expected to see winds reaching 20 to 25 miles per hour.

Areas surrounding the Klamath mountain range will see the brunt of the rain, with a whopping inch of precipitation possible in Eureka. Redding may see half an inch of rain.

The foothills also may see a bit more precipitation than Sacramento Valley communities. Grass Valley could receive a half inch to an inch of rain.

South Lake Tahoe is expected to see only a tenth of an inch of rain, but high elevations in the Sierra Nevada may see light snow. Winds at Tahoe could reach 30 mph.

Donner Pass and Echo Pass, located on Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 50 respectively, may see about an inch of snow. Three to four inches of snow is predicted to fall at Lassen Peak.

Sunday may reach 88 degrees Fahrenheit, but temperatures are expected to drop by 5 to 15 degrees on both Monday and Tuesday.
