Sacramento could peak around 102 degrees this week. When might heat wave end?
Sacramento Valley is going to stay hot all week, with no reprieve in sight until Sunday at the very earliest.
High temperatures in Sacramento are expected to stay between about 99 and 101 degrees Monday through Saturday, according to the latest National Weather Service forecasts, with 102 in store for Friday. The capital could cool to around 92 by Sunday, current forecasts show. The average daily high temperatures for late June in Sacramento are between 89 and 90 degrees.
Temperatures could approach 110 farther north in the Sacramento Valley, with Redding forecast to hit 109 degrees Friday and 108 Monday, Thursday and Saturday. The NWS has issued a heat advisory through Saturday for most of the Central Valley.
Weather officials do not currently predict elevated wildfire risk, with no red flag warnings yet issued for Northern California this week. Relatively calm winds are currently in the forecast for most of the Sacramento Valley from Monday through Wednesday.
Hot, dry conditions combined with gusty winds in recent weeks to stoke a number of significant grass fires, including the Grant Fire, which started June 12 in Sacramento County’s Sloughhouse area. That 5,042-acre blaze damaged one structure after prompting evacuation orders near Grant Line Road. It was fully extinguished on June 17, according to Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado unit.
The NWS and other public safety agencies also continue to issue reminders that despite the sweltering air temperature, rivers continue to run cold and fast this time of year, and anyone enjoying Northern California’s waterways should be wearing a life jacket. Cal Fire’s Nevada-Yuba-Placer unit responded to at least three water rescue incidents along the American River Confluence near Auburn State Recreation Area this past weekend.
