Avoid that dry grass: Here’s how hot Sacramento will get this Fourth of July weekend
It’ll be hot but not scorching this coming holiday weekend in Sacramento.
High temperatures will swell from the low 90s Friday to around 96 degrees on Independence Day, according to the latest National Weather Service forecasts for California’s capital. Similar heat is expected Sunday before a slight cooldown to the low 90s early next week.
That’ll be a tad above normal for July 4, which historically reaches about 91 degrees in Sacramento, according to NWS data. But you should be accustomed to worse: Downtown Sacramento hit triple-digits seven times in June, maxing out at 104 last Friday.
Saturday won’t come close to the city’s all-time Independence Day record of 109 set in 2013.
The forecasts are similar for most of the Sacramento Valley and interior Northern California. Highs will range throughout the 90s and it will be dry, but the NWS does not currently predict any significant wind for most of the valley, meaning no red flag warning has been issued to advise of wildfire risk.
But this time of year, fireworks set irresponsibly can introduce high fire risk if the sparks reach that dry vegetation. Even in areas where use is permitted, those celebrated should avoid lighting fireworks near dry grass.
Weather in the Tahoe area will be warm and sunny, but potentially windy. The NWS forecasts afternoon and evening gusts up to 30 mph Friday and 25 mph Saturday. Afternoon highs will stay right around 80 degrees now through the middle of next week.
The Sierra foothills should reach the mid-to-high 80s this weekend.
